Group Lesson Details

You can book multiple days of lessons in two ways:

Option 1: Book individual days Add one lesson date to your cart at a time. This lets you choose consecutive days or skip days between lessons. Repeat the booking process for each day you want.

Option 2: Group Lesson 4-Pack (for discounted pricing). Group Lesson Packs offer the flexibility to use multiple lesson days with a discount for purchasing lessons in bulk. Lessons don't need to be back-to-back. After buying the pack, check your confirmation email. Use the reservation link to book each lesson date one at a time.

For the best availability, book your lessons as early as possible since we often sell out.

If you'd like to ensure that everyone in your group is in the same lesson, we recommend taking a private lesson, which can have up to 5 participants. The instructor will teach to the lowest ability in the group; not everyone learn at the same rate. If you take a group lesson, members may be placed in the same group if their ages and ability levels align.

For both summer and winter lessons, everyone goes through a quick on-mountain evaluation upon arrival. We then divide participants by discipline, ability, age, and lesson objective.

Group sizes may vary based on the number of signups each day. In the winter, we aim to keep group lesson sizes to 4 participants for ages 15+, 6 participants for ages 7-14, and 3 participants for younger children.

In the summer, downhill bike group lessons have 6 or fewer per group.

The Teen Mountain Experience is perfect for young skiers or snowboarders ages 13 - 17 who want to explore the mountain with peers their own age. Rather than focusing on instruction, this program emphasizes adventure and terrain exploration with minimal coaching. Participants must ski or snowboard at level 4 or above (intermediate).

We recommend choosing the location nearest you. Big Sky Resort has two main winter base areas—Mountain Village and Madison Base—where we offer lessons. Mountain Village is our main base area with lots of amenities and the main hub for most guests. For guests staying near Moonlight Basin, Madison Base also offers lessons. Some lessons are only offered at certain locations.

Guests staying in Spanish Peaks or at the Montage Hotel may meet their instructors for private lessons at the Montage.

In summer, all activities are based in Mountain Village.

To read more about the base areas, visit the Base Area page on our website.

Lift tickets are not included with private or group lessons.  A lift ticket or valid season pass is required for all lesson participants. Including Sno-Go lessons.

In the winter, discounted lift tickets are available to children (7-14) in group lessons. These discount tickets are available to add-on to your lesson when adding the product to your cart or by contacting us.

In the summer, if you do not have a bike and bike haul lift ticket and want to take a group lesson, purchase the downhill group lesson package.  This half-day lesson option includes a bike rental and bike haul ticket for the duration of your lesson.

Want to use the bike before or after your lesson?

Rental equipment is not included with lessons, programs, or guides. If you do not have your own equipment, we recommend booking rentals with Big Sky Sports.

Rental skis and snowboards may be available for Mountain Village Small Fry Try private lessons (ages 2-4). Please call the Mountain Sports Office for availability.

In the summer, downhill mountain biking lessons do not include rentals. Select downhill mountain biking lessons offer discounted rentals. Please inquire when booking your lesson.

Lunch is included in full-day winter group lessons.  Youth Group lessons have a designated lunch room, while adult lesson participants will receive lunch at the Chet's Buffet.  Lunch is not included with half-day lessons, private lessons, or summer bike lessons.

Big Sky Mountain Sports is nut-free. Guests should not bring any type of nuts with them as snacks or lunch. Please inform Mountain Sports at checkout of any dietary restrictions.
