Experience the specialness of Yellowstone in the winter by snowcoach, snowmobile, or snowshoe.

Yellowstone National Park is a special place that becomes even more serene and magical in the winter.

Between the fall and spring (usually October or November to April or May), Yellowstone closes all but its North Entrance roads, making the bucket list attractions in the park accessible only by one-of-a-kind oversnow experiences.

The West Entrance is closest to Big Sky, with many unique day trip activities, including snowmobiling, snowcoach tours, and snowshoeing, available out of West Yellowstone, about an hour’s scenic drive from the resort.

Winter Activities in Yellowstone

Yellowstone in winter offers a different perspective of the park—the opportunity to see the wildlife that calls the park home, along with the stunning natural beauty that surrounds them, in a snow-covered wonderland.

Wildlife Viewing

Bison, elk, coyotes, foxes, and other animals that call Yellowstone National Park home are even more magical in winter’s snow-covered forests, meadows, and streams. Observing wildlife when the park is less crowded provides a can't-miss experience.
