Rental & Demo Policies
The following policies apply to Big Sky Sports Rentals & Demos.
Skier Type Classification
Your skier type, height, weight, age, and boot sole length are used by the rental or demo shop technician to determine the release and retention settings for your bindings. Consult the descriptions below to select your classification. Be sure to provide accurate information, as errors may increase your risk of injury.
Type I: Cautious skiing on smooth slopes of gentle to moderate pitch
Skiers who designate themselves as Type I receive lower than-average release/retention settings. This corresponds to an increased risk of inadvertent binding release in order to promote a release in case of a fall. This type also applies to entry-level skiers uncertain of their classification.
Type II: Skiers not classified as Type I or III
Skiers who designate themselves as Type II receive average release/retention settings appropriate for most recreational skiing.
Type III: Fast skiing on slopes of moderate or steep pitch
Skiers who designate themselves as Type III receive higher than average release/retention settings. This corresponds to decreased release-ability in a fall in order to gain a decreased risk of inadvertent binding release. This classification is not recommended for skiers under 45 lbs.

Though Big Sky Resort lift tickets, lessons, equipment rentals, and activities are non-refundable and non-transferable, we provide E-Vouchers for canceled products that can be used towards another online purchase at shop.bigskyresort.com.
Requests for an E-Voucher must be made 48 hours prior to the product's start date. Requests made within 48 hours will be ineligible unless appropriate supporting documentation is provided.
To cancel your lift ticket, lesson, equipment rental, or activity, please fill out the Activity E-Voucher Request form.
Your E-Voucher is based on the purchase value of your original transaction and can be applied to future online transactions. Once an E-Voucher number has been issued to you, it can be used as payment on the checkout page to purchase online products for a future visit. E-Vouchers for products purchased during the 2023-24 ski season or 2024 summer, expire on May 1, 2025.
If there is a difference in the price, you will need to pay that difference for the new product. If you do not use the full amount of your E-Voucher in one transaction, the remaining balance will be available on the same E-Voucher for another purchase until the expiration date. E-Vouchers must be redeemed online and are not available at any outlet.
