Well, there’s nothing sweeter for Christmas than a couple of feet of fresh powder! It snowed heavily all day and night Christmas Eve continuing into Christmas day. All the snow-kids at Big Sky woke up to a deep surprises on all their favorite runs under the trees.
The tram would be loaded up and I just kept lapping it up on Andesite... I wouldn’t stop all day, not even for turns from the top! For me, when there’s this much pow, I get in the maximum turns and the maximum vertical feet, foregoing the epic tales that accompany waiting for the tram.
I took only one tram ride, experiencing momentary vertigo on a snowboard while descending Liberty Bowl isn’t an unfamiliar sensation ... and the solution is to wait for a centered skier to work the fall line ahead of you. When the three riders went past me, I followed into waist-deep fluff, making turn after arching turn. The face shots were completely blinding, and each hard turn re-filled me with another breath-taking face-full! SWEET!
Which brings me to Christmas-day powder. Crotch-deep fresh tracks under Lone Moose chair was vying to be the “run of the day” until I hooked up with Kyle and explored deep into the Bear’s Lair and other runs that shall not be named at this time. The powder was endless! If you happened to get into an over-tracked run -- there weren’t many ---- it was still great soft snow with deep ridges, just more of a work-out to have your fun!
Coming off the mountain at 4:20 ... after over 6 hours of continuous riding...left me with an unremovable ear-to-ear grin.
It was the Best Christmas Day Ever!!
