Big Sky Wins Two Montana State Tourism Awards at 2012 Governor’s Conference
4/16/12BIG SKY, Mont. — Big Sky Resort was recently recognized at the annual Governor’s Conference on Tourism and Recreation with three Montana Tourism Award nominations, two of which won their category. The nominations included Big Sky Resort’s Meg O’Leary for Montana Tourism Person of the Year, Big Sky Resort’s Big Sky Big Grass bluegrass festival for Tourism Event of the Year, and Big Sky as the host of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation for Tourism Community of the Year. Big Sky won in two categories with Meg O’Leary winning Tourism Person of the Year and Big Sky winning Community of the Year.
Big Sky Resort Marketing and Sales Director Meg O’Leary was named Montana Tourism Person of the Year for her exceptional contribution to Montana tourism at both Big Sky Resort and in the greater community. A native Montanan, Meg O’Leary has deeply invested herself in promoting her home state through her work as the Director of Marketing and Sales at Big Sky Resort and as an inaugural board member of the Big Sky Convention and Vistors’ Bureau, founding member of the Big Sky Transportation District, the chairperson of the Big Sky Lodging Association, and her work helping to secure many direct flights to the Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport.
“Meg’s efforts towards growing Montana tourism have permeated the state at every level,” said Taylor Middleton, Big Sky Resort General Manager.
Big Sky was named Tourism Community of the Year for its work hosting the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation in May of 2011. Through the partnerships of Montana businesses, community organizations, and government offices, Big Sky brought in over 2,000 national and international visitors to the region, promoting Montana as a destination on an international level, and giving Montana businesses a unique opportunity to promote their products to foreign economies. Through these efforts, APEC exemplified a successful Montana event taken on by a community to promote tourism in Montana.
“As the largest winter tourism community in Montana, Big Sky works hard to promote visitation to the region,” said Middleton. “We are so proud of the exceptional people in our company and community and their ability to work together to bring international recognition to Big Sky.”
