Big Sky Resort Welcomes 850 New Employees, Creates New Jobs

11/22/11

BIG SKY, Mont. — In a recession, many companies cut back on staff.  But even in tough economic times, Big Sky Resort has continued to grow, adding new amenities and employees each year.  Each season, Big Sky hires hundreds of new employees, and the Resort will open its slopes this Thursday, November 24th with over 150 newly hired staff, complementing 200 existing team members.  Over 650 more new employees will arrive to work at Big Sky Resort over the next month, peaking at around 1,000 employees this winter.

“Creating jobs and hiring locally is a way for Big Sky to help both our company and our community grow,” said Dax Schieffer, Big Sky Resort Director of Human Resources.  “Big Sky is always striving to attract people to our community, and that means creating new activities, amenities, and jobs, even when other businesses are tightening their belts.”

Since the addition of Big Sky's Ziplines and other Basecamp activities in 2009, Big Sky Resort has created 31 new Basecamp jobs, including two full time year-round positions.

This winter, Big Sky Resort’s new Solace Spa and Salon will open, creating eight new positions in spa services. By opening new restaurants such as the Fondue Stube in 2010, and extending some restaurant hours for the 2011/12 season, the resort continues to add new jobs in the Food and Beverage department.

With a competitive job market – Big Sky received over 2,300 applications for the approximately 850 seasonal positions – Big Sky Resort is able to hire and train the best staff to serve its guests. Furthermore, Big Sky is a desirable place to work each season – Big Sky’s returner rate is at 55%, and 81% of employees say Big Sky is great place to work and would recommend working there to others.

Many positions for the winter of 2011/12 have been filled, but there are some open positions posted on at www.bigskyresort.com/jobs, where Big Sky encourages job seekers to apply.
