Float into Fun on Saturday, September 4

BIG SKY, Mont. — Why float through the dog days of summer when you can paddle.  Join the excitement when participants launch their cardboard creations onto Lake Levinksy for the cardboard boat regatta.  The event coincides with a weekend of family and fun activities at the Big Sky Resort Mountain Fest.

Geyser Whitewater Expeditions and Big Sky Resort will team up to provide a morning of spills and racing. The boat regatta fun will start at 11 a.m. when the boats will be inspected on the shores of Lake Levinsky.  Boats must be able to hold at least one person and follow the rules listed on the Big Sky Resort website. Boats must be made entirely of cardboard and duct tape can be used to seal seems but not cover the hulls of boats.  Certain varnishes are allowed to aid in water proofing the cardboard creations. Teams should form now to ensure plenty of time to design, build and modify a boat for the competition.

Costumes and boat decorations are encouraged and personal flotation devices are required for all participating.   Geyser will be providing safety boaters in the water and will set the challenging course in the water.  Everything must be removed from the lake after the race by the team so consider the weight of materials once they are wet. 

There is no fee to submit an entry or to attend the event.  Registration forms and the rules are available on-line at www.bigskyresort.com, under Mountain Fest on the events calendar. Teams are asked to fill out the online registration form and carefully read the rules and regulations, then e-mail, mail or fax the form before the race day.  Teams failing to abide by the rules will be disqualified. Following the race, at 12 p.m. Mountain Fest will kick-off with music, food, fun and many other activities.  Prizes will be awarded for the fastest time and most creative as well as other categories.
