Friday Night Quarterpipe March 7

BIG SKY, Mont. -Think bright lights over fierce competition on a Friday night with spectators going wild. Now add snow, a banked quarterpipe, a DJ, and freestyle athletes pulling tricks you wouldn't want your mom to see you do. This is the setting for the Friday Night Quarterpipe competition at Big Sky Resort.

 Friday, March 7, the base of Ambush will be transformed into the ultimate quarterpipe. Complete with plenty of vertical rise, the audience will not be disappointed as they yell out their "Oohs", "Ahs", and "Ow, that hurt". The competition begins at 6:30 p.m.

 With cash purse to divided among winners, athletes are sure to put on a good show. Freestyle skiers and snowboarders will be judged on amplitude, technical difficulty of the maneuvers and the style displayed in performing them. The event will be a jam format, with every run judged and used towards deciding the winners.

 Athletes interested in participating must be at the qualifier on Thursday, March 6 at 12 p.m. at the Quarterpipe on the base of Ambush, just above the Ramcharger chairlift.  The entry cost is $10

 A quarterpipe is exactly that, half of a halfpipe.  Quarterpipes allow for bigger aerial maneuvers because riders do not have to worry about successive tricks as in a halfpipe.  "One hit wonders" is the name of the game and competitors will go big. Participants will gain speed and enter the pipe for maximum air. Spectators will see flips, multiple spins, technical switch tricks, huge straight airs and more.

 MC Souleye will be spinning during the competition and afterward will head inside Whiskey Jack's to join BLVD and rock the night away.  Souleye will team up with BLVD both Colorado basic bands at approximately 9pm and will be spinning hip-hop and electronic music. Sponsors include Coca-Cola, Verizon, Rocky Mountain Rustics, Right Now Technologies, Big Sky Resort and others.  The competition is free for spectators and so is the music.
