Guests Stay Connected at Big Sky With Free High-Speed Wireless

5/20/07

BIG SKY, Mont. - People visit the mountains to step back, relax, take in the views and appreciate the sheer size and beauty of what the Big Sky state offers. At Big Sky Resort those same attributes draw many visitors, however, unique to Big Sky's mountains, guests may also enjoy the connectivity offered with free high-speed wireless in the Mountain Village to combine their mountain experience yet still keep tabs on the real world.

Three years ago Big Sky installed a wireless network allowing guests and visitors to get high-speed internet access while they are on property for a fee. However, more recently the resort opened up the system to offer completely free access and increased the bandwidth and number of access points. The system is designed to utilize user's network settings and simply requires a laptop and an installed wireless Ethernet Network Card.

The wireless network has been designed to provide coverage in all meeting space in the Summit Hotel, Yellowstone Conference Center, Mountain Mall, Huntley Lodge and Shoshone Condominiums, ideal for summer meeting groups and their needs. Coverage is also available in public spaces such as the Summit Lobby, Peaks Restaurant, the Carabiner and the Huntley/Shoshone Lobby, Firehole Lounge and Sunken Lobby.

Guests of the Summit Hotel, Shoshone Condo and Huntley Lodge also have wired, free high-speed access located in the rooms.

When a user's laptop detects the wireless signal, they will be prompted to a logon page, which will prompt the user to enter their name, giving them access to the information super-highway.

Big Sky has contracted with Guest-Tek to provide the service offering 24-hour customer service. The connection is seamless for each computer user's laptop and will be re-connected each session automatically during each 24-hour free period.

"There has been increasing demand for this technology and offering it for free simply lines up with the resort's overall customer service values", said Big Sky's IT director, Dan Hoadley. "Big Sky offers a system that responds to our guests needs, particularly the predominately business minded summer visitor who is attending a conference or meeting for work."
