JGB and Melvin Seals Plays Big Sky

3/28/07

BIG SKY, Mont. - JGB is performing at Whiskey Jack's on April 14, in conjunction with the end of season Spring Run-Off. The JGB was an American Rock band led by Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead. Garcia started the band in 1975. Of his many side projects, it was the main one, until his death in 1995. The JGB continues to play his songs and draw great crowds at all of their shows.

Keyboardist Melvin Seals anchors the band. Nicknamed "Master of the Universe" by Jerry Garcia himself, Seals is most revered for his powerful, high-spirited playing of his Hammond B-3 organ and keyboards.

Melvin is accompanied by Sam Howard on drums, Martin Holland on bass, and vocalist Stu Allen on guitar. The band has released multiple albums demonstrating their form of jam- listening to one another, moving as a single-minded, shape-shifting entity that paints from a full palette of decorative color.

Hooligans, Bozeman's longest running roots rock, Americana, blues and reggae jam, will be opening for JGB and Melvin Seals at 7 p.m. in Whiskey Jack's at Big Sky Resort. Tickets are $20 and will sell out fast. They are available at Cactus Records or by calling 406-995-8076.

The night of live music at the Jack coincides with Big Sky's 4th Annual Spring Run-off. Activities include children's events, live music in the plaza at 4 p.m., and the ever popular pond skim. A 100-ft pond will be temporarily built at the base of the Ambush headwall for brave competitors to ski across in front of spectators.
