Big Sky Introduces Youth to Spring Skiing In March
3/20/07BIG SKY, Mont. - Skiing and snowboarding at Big Sky Resort are things many people can take for granted living in Montana. However, other groups are not so fortunate and Big Sky Resort has always encouraged participation through charitable giving days.
During the winter, Big Sky offers over 30 ski days for non-profit groups donating a variety of lodging, lift tickets, rentals, lessons and meeting space.
A few of the great organizations that work with Big Sky and help others in and around the community include Big Brothers Big Sisters who provide healthy role models for area youth. Big Sky is opening the doors with free skiing for all the "bigs" and free lessons, lift tickets and rentals for all the "littles" on Sunday, March 18.
A long time partner with Big Sky Resort is Eagle Mount who will be hosting "Spring Fling, Big Sky Kids" on March 24. The event invites children and their supporting families who are dealing with illnesses to enjoy a day in the mountains minus the day-to-day worries of doctors and hospitals.
Other organizations that Big Sky hosts with donated lift tickets during the season includes Big Sky Youth Empowerment Project which provides ski and snowboard experiences for area youth along with a mentorship program providing positive lessons for life decisions. KidSki is a local program started by Matt Dodd from Big Sky's Ski School that introduces skiing and snowboarding to youth who are unable otherwise to experience the mountains.
Other special ski days are set-aside for Helena's Intermountain Children's Home and the fundraiser for Jimmie Heuga's Vertical Express for MS.
"We really enjoy the opportunity to aid great community organizations in their causes," said Marketing Director, Meg O'Leary. "It's wonderful that we can live, work and play on this mountain. It is even better to have the tools to be able to share it."
Big Sky also gives season passes to all Ophir Elementary School students, facility and staff members each year. For non-profit organizations interested in hosting a ski day, call Lindsey Mitchell at 800-548-4487. For more information visit www.bigskyresort.com.
