Big Events Happening at Big Sky Mountain Village This Weekend
12/10/07BIG SKY, Mont. - There's something for everyone this weekend at Big Sky Resort. The 4th annual RUST, Rails Under the Stars, is Saturday, December 15. The rail jam will feature both skiers and snowboarders, competing on specially designed boxes and rails. The event will take place in the plaza area near the Snowcrest building. RUST will guarantee a thrilling exhibition with a party atmosphere for the spectators. Bonfires and fireworks will excite and keep people warm. Inside the Yellowstone Conference Center, community members and guests will have the opportunity to enjoy dinner to support the Friends of Big Sky Education.
RUST is sponsored by World Boards and Big Sky Sports with the rail jam starting at 7 p.m. near the plaza in the base area of Big Sky Resort. The event is by invitation only and will feature 30-35 amateur and professional participants.
Riders will drop into the rail area and then finish right into the crowd, creating an interactive atmosphere with the audience. The first fireworks show of the season and a double movie premiere with a raffle will follow the competition.
"RUST continues to grow each year. With new improvements like allowing riders to gather more speed, it's going to be awesome and we are adding some sick features like the 15 foot gap to down box," said terrain park manager, Tyrel Thornton. "Spectators will be super stoked and are really going to enjoy the new set-up. It is a must attend event this year, so arrive early."
Following the competition Big Sky will host a double movie premier in Whiskey Jacks. At 8 p.m. the movie premiere of inc. Productions "Recordings" will be featured, followed by b-film Media Productions "Get Loose." Both films feature Big Sky Resort terrain as well as many other exotic locations. A raffle ticket and drink specials will be included in the cover charge. All events in Whiskey Jacks are for 21 and over.
RUST is the first big event of the 2007-2008 ski season at Big Sky Resort. The Sno-Bar, weekly fireworks, New Years Eve Celebrations, Dummy Jump, Quarter-pipe and the Spring Run-Off all add to the ever-growing event schedule at Big Sky.
