Big Sky to host 3rd Annual RUST
12/11/06BIG SKY, Mont. - The 3rd annual RUST, Rails Under the STars, will be hosted by Big Sky Resort Saturday, December 16. The rail jam will feature athletes, both skiers and snowboarders, competing on technical rail features and boxes. The night will guarantee thrilling competition with a bonfire type atmosphere for the spectators.
Sponsored by Big Sky Sports and The Board Shop, the rail jam begins at 7 p.m. and will be held near the plaza in the base area of Big Sky Resort. The event is by invitation only and will feature 30-35 amateur and professional participants.
Riders will drop into the rail area and then finish right into the crowd, creating an interactive atmosphere with the audience. The first fireworks show of the season and an awards ceremony will follow the competition.
"RUST continues to grow every year. The audience is sure to be dazzled and awed by the athletes this go around," said terrain park manager, Joe Pope. "People will be super stoked and enjoy the new rails. It is a must attend event this year, so arrive early."
Following the competition Big Sky will host an after party in Whiskey Jacks. At 9 p.m. the ski movie premiere of Monkey Produce, "Go Gonzo", will be featured. Sweatshop Union, a Canadian hip-hop act, will begin at 10 p.m. All events in Whiskey Jacks are for 21 and over.
The rail features will be broken down after RUST and be moved and rebuilt in the terrain park, a couple days after the show.
