Mountain biking in and around the Big Sky area means miles of back country scenery, wildflowers, wildlife, and few human encounters. Ski lift access and forest roads offer off-pavement, out-of-traffic experiences. There are  trails on and around the mountain on which to explore. New beginner and advanced trails are being constructed this summer. Downhillers can also find a plethora of trails to get their thrills on.

Love the Ride Report

We will be updating this page weekly.  For daily on the hour lift updates please contact Big Sky Sports at 406-995-5840.  We'll be working with the riders around the mountain and our knowledgeable staff at Big Sky Sports to provide weekly updates to this section, stay tuned to read more.  If you have stories or photos to add, please send them to lkiland@bigskyresort.com, we'd love to post them to spread the word on the best lift accessed downhill terrain in the region.

August 1, 2007

With the recent afternoon thunderstorms and showers, the trails are riding the best they have all season.  The trails are super tacky and firm providing superb conditions through the more technical trails Big Sky offers.  Big Sky just recently switched lifts from the Gondola to Swift Current for uphill access much to the delight of our local rider scene.  The high-speed quad offers many advantages including higher lift access opening up longer runs as well as more frequent bike pick-ups.  Of course the biggest advantage is that riders will be able to stretch their legs out in the nice crisp, open air instead of loading into the Gondola Cabins.

I had an opportunity to explore the mountain earlier in the month and was really impressed with Cairns Way, it is a new trail that was built last season; it offers the best warm up route down the mountain.  Shane, Mike and crew really outdid themselves building an interesting, yet intermediate single track that winds its way down the mountain.

Keep an eye out on the website to learn more about Lone Peak's Revenge this year, we'll host a cross-country race on Saturday, August 25 and the Montana State Championship Downhill will be Sunday, August 26.  The events are part of the MORS series and will be NORBA sanctioned.

Remember

Prior to using freestyle terrain, it is the riders' responsibility to inspect the terrain, understand that the terrain changes constantly due to weather and use, assume the risk of injury when jumping, and keep control of body and equipment at all times. Please be courteous and respect others, clear the landing areas quickly and ride within your ability.

All of Big Sky's lift accessed mountain biking is intermediate to advanced.  Trails are not patrolled, use at your own risk.  LIMITED BEGINNER TRAILS. EXTREME EXPOSURE.  LOOSE ROCK ROADS.
