BIG SKY, Mont. —From the mountains to the Sky, everything in Big Sky, Montana is Big. And Big Sky Resort’s 4th annual Big Sky Big Grass bluegrass festival is no exception. It is a three-day music extravaganza with artists and bands coming in from all over the country. The festival will begin February 12 and play in Whiskey Jack’s, the Carabiner and Missouri Ballroom. The bluegrass will grow even bigger and move to the Missouri Ballroom on February 13 with festival headliners the Travelin’ McCourys.

Bands such as Growling Old Men, Party Line,  Jawbone Railroad, and the Infamous Stringdusters will play several times over the three-day festival on the Summit Hotel, Whiskey Jack and Carabiner stage along with numerous other famous artists, such as  Bearfoot, Crooked Still, and The Big Grass Mountain Jam.

The Big Sky Big Grass festival’s main event is Saturday night, February 13 beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Missouri Ballroom at Big Sky Resort. Crooked Still takes the stage first, followed by The Infamous Stringdusters.  The Travelin’ McCourys will hop on stage at 9:30p.m. and keep the bluegrass stomping.   The $25 admission into the headliner show will also be valid for entry into Whiskey Jack’s for the late bluegrass shows.  Food, libations, and merchandise will be available.

•The Travelin’ McCourys- Known for their individual prowess on their instruments and their rapidly expanding reputation as collaborators with the members of numerous musical icons from Vince Gill to the Allman Brothers and Phish, this touring unit blends the best of the Appalachian tradition with the improvisational magic of jazz. Unique live collaborations are the hallmark of their performances, and demonstrates why critics and musicians across the country hail them as the best bluegrass band in the world.

• Jawbone Railroad- Playing all your favorite hits from the 20's and 30's, Jawbone Railroad is a personal attack on the forces that would slick-up and corporate-ize acoustic music. Hailing from Bozeman, MT they are a “string band we can believe in.”

• Infamous Stringdusters- Hailed as the most talented and creative new band on the bluegrass scene, the Nashville based Stringdusters are six unique, professional players who are steeped in the tradition of bluegrass vocal harmony as well as the progressive edge of instrumental music.

• Crooked Still- The hot young alternative bluegrass group on a mission to bend the boundaries of traditional music.  The unlikely combination of banjo, cello, and double bass blend with captivating vocals and high wire solos. Rock energy coexists with old-time mountain soul.

Whiskey Jack’s tickets are available at the door.  Tickets for the Friday shows are $15 and $10 for Saturday and Sunday music.  The music will begin at 3:30p.m and play throughout the evening.  Tickets for the Missouri Ballroom Festival Stage, February 13 are $25 at the door or can be reserved by calling 406-995-8077.  For more information on the times and all the bands and great lodging packages that include hotel, lift tickets and venue admission, check out www.bigskyresort.com
