Building Swift Current 6
Helicopter Tower Install & Removal
September 2021
Over three days, the expert pilots at Timberline Helicopters flew a specialized Black Hawk Helicopter to complete major steps in Swift Current 6 construction. They started by hauling up large pieces of equipment to the top terminal, which is nearing completion. The next task was to remove the old Swift Current quad towers and install the new ones plus their crossarms. Each tower weighs between 5,000 and 7,000 pounds, depending on the height. The new towers are larger to accommodate the 6-seater chairs and have tapered bases to add even more stability. The helicopter made over 200 passes to haul equipment. Helicopter operations are being wrapped up and construction is on schedule for winter.

Helicopter-Assisted Concrete Pouring
August 2021
A Black Hawk helicopter assisted in getting concrete to tower bases that are inaccessible by truck. Each load carried around 5,000 pounds of concrete from the base of the mountain to the towers. Around 140 trips were made to carry over 550,000 pounds of concrete over two days.
Tower Concrete Pouring
June 2021
The towers from the old Swift Current quad have been removed and our teams have started pouring concrete for the bases of the new towers. The towers for the new lift are tapered and slightly wider at the base. Once the concrete work is done, a helicopter will assist with installing the towers.
